Inclusive Tech Policy
The Inclusive Tech Policy (ITP) initiative at American University, part of the Signature Research Initiative (SRI) program, aims to foster inclusivity in global technology policy by amplifying underrepresented voices. Launched with foundational support from the Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP), ITP was designed to unify research efforts across campus. Initially proposed by the Women in Tech group, the initiative brought together key centers, including IDPP, the Internet Governance Lab (IGL), the Kogod Cybersecurity Governance Center, the Tech, Law and Security Program at the Washington College of Law, and the Policy Studies in Cybersecurity Program at the School of Public Affairs. This collaborative framework has broadened ITP’s influence, supporting a more inclusive approach to tech policy. Inspired by the initiative’s mission, the Tech Policy Changemaker Award was created to honor individuals who champion these values. Today, the Khan Institute at American University oversees the award, extending ITP’s impact across the university and beyond.
