Dr. Derrick L. Cogburn, Executive Director of the Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP) and American University School of International Service Professor, served as a moderator and panelist at the 2024 North American School of Internet Governance (NASIG) Summit in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The theme of this year’s conference is “Confronting Truth, Trust, and Hope in Internet Governance.” 2024 NASIG serves as an excellent prelude to the 79th Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) meeting held March 2-7, 2024 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
As a panelist, Dr. Cogburn lended his knowledge to conversations on the management of our unprecedented global digital economy and the role of trust in our virtual interactions. These discussions were titled “Trust as the Bedrock of Internet Interaction” and “Governing the Global Digital Economy.”
Dr. Cogburn moderated two discussions on how to navigate digital landscapes both as a consumer and a policymaker: “Understanding Internet Governance” and “Digital Literacy and Inclusive Internet Access.” IDPP is pioneering technological strides in inclusion of persons with disabilities thanks to Dr. Cogburn’s additional expertise in technology and internet governance as Co-Director of the American University Internet Governance Lab and Professor in the Kogod School of Business Department of Information Technology & Analytics.
American University’s Inclusive Tech Policy Center Program Coordinator Kathleen Scoggin showcased her expertise as a moderator on two panel discussions: “The State of the Internet: The Power of Truth, the Importance of Trust, and Our Hope for the Future” and “Case study presentations: Examples of successful initiatives in promoting truth and transparency online.”
