On 9 June 2016, IDPP welcomes the delegation of the USA-Indonesia Deaf Youth Leadership Program to American University. This Cultural Exchange and Human Rights Program is a partnership of the US Embassy in Indonesia and Dr. Mason Global. It brings together 20 deaf and hard-of-hearing young leaders from the US and Indonesia with a focus on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This bilateral exchange consists of 14 days in Indonesia and 14 days in the US, where IDPP is also facilitating their visit to the UN 9th Conference of States Parties to the CRPD (COSP-9).
On April 8, 2019, the Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP), alongside American University and more than 100 disability advocates and higher education institutions from 40 countries, signed onto a historic global compact on persons with disabilities in higher education.
First of its kind, Special Smiles is a comprehensive data-set on the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities.
"The entire site visit was incredible,” said IDPP Research Associate Nathan Banks. “I’m fascinated by the internal processes organizations like PAHO use. I’m so grateful to have been able to see what this line of work is like firsthand.”
IDPP Executive Dr. Derrick Cogburn will be presenting on IDPP’s contributions to disaster risk reduction related to persons with disabilities at the 3rd Biennial University of Maryland (UMD) Disability Summit (April 5, 2019).
Building on our successful collaboration in the UNISDR Global Platform 2017 in Cancun, Mexico, IDPP is again providing support for remote participation in the Global Platform 2019 (GP2019) in Geneva, Switzerland.
