The IDPP at American University has launched today the beta version of “CRPD”, the world’s first mobile application on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This innovation, currently available for iOS devices, supports disability advocacy and accessible participation in global governance processes by providing ready access to the structure, contents, States Parties, and knowledge dissemination around the Convention – the first human rights treaty of the 21st century and the fastest-growing treaty in history.
IDPP Co-Organizes ISA Working Group on Accessible Global Governance
IDPP Executive Director and American University School of International Service Associate Professor Dr. Derrick Cogburn is co-organizing the Working Group “Accelerating Change in Global Governance: Enhancing the Participation of Excluded and Marginalized Voices Through Information and Communication Technology” at the 2017 International Studies Association (ISA) Annual Convention on Tuesday, 21 February 2017. Dr. Tina Kempin Reuter, IDPP Faculty Associate and Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Executive Director of its Institute for Human Rights, will co-organize the Working Group.
Dr. Cogburn Speaks at State of the Net 2017 Panel on Internet Governance
IDPP Executive Director and AU SIS Associate Professor Dr. Derrick Cogburn has been invited to speak at the State of the Net 2017 Conference Panel on Internet Governance at the Newseum in Washington, DC on Monday, 23 January 2017. The conference - "America's premier Internet policy series" - will cover topics ranging from the future of Internet governance to how its institutions and processes are in a struggle for legitimacy.
IDPP Presents Research at HICSS-50
IDPP Executive Director and AU SIS Associate Professor Dr. Derrick Cogburn and IDPP Deputy Director and AU SOC Assistant Professor Dr. Filippo Trevisan will present and actively participate in the 50th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-50) from 4-8 January 2017 in Waikoloa, Hawaii. They will be joined by IDPP Faculty Associate and AU SIS Associate Dean and Associate Professor Dr. Nanette Levinson, and IDPP Joint Advisory Board Member and AU Kogod School of Business Professor Dr. Alberto Espinosa. The HICSS conference is the longest running and one of the most prestigious conferences on system sciences in the world. IDPP has presented its research and actively participated in HICSS for the past eight years.
IDPP Participates in Series of Key UN Disability Meetings
IDPP Executive Director and American University School of International Service Associate Professor Dr. Derrick Cogburn is participating in a series on key United Nations meetings focused on disability, development, digital societies, and CRPD+10 from 28 November – 2 December 2016. The events include the IDPP Side Event “Soft Launch: CRPD Mobile App” on 2 December from 1:15pm-2:30pm in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the 2016 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
